Will a motion activated light work for me?

We bought a house and the people across the street have motion activated lights on either side of their garage. I would like to install some but the light that turns on our outdoor garage lights also turns on an entry way light inside our house. Is this normal? Will I have to rewire something for the motion activated lights to work? Will a motion activated light work for me?I would check out the switch and see if there are 2 wires to it, you may be in luck. If there are 2 wires see if one controls the inside light and the other controls the outside light.

If only have one wire you can put a motion sensor light outside but the switch inside has to be on for it to work. Maybe can put a motion sensor light on inside light as well and then always leave the light switch on.Will a motion activated light work for me?When you install a motion activated light, the switch that is used for them should be on what's called a designated circuit. This means when someone turns or the switch that your motion activated lights, it puts the sensor in a state of manual use, or it is now acting just like a regular light. Your sensor will not work if this switch is turned off or it is on a circuit that powers other lights. In order to have these lights work correctly, they need to be on their own circuit, with one switch designated just for your motion lights. This switch must always remain in the on position in order for the motion activator to work. So your answer is yes, it needs to be wired on it's own circuit to the breaker box for the switch to work correctly, otherwise the lights will come on and stay on if it isn't wired correctly. Will a motion activated light work for me?Motion activated lights require really no installation.

If you have a light fitting in place, the motion activated light simply attaches to that. The power is left on all the time, and motion detecting system uses that power.

Now for your work you will need to rewire to some extent. How easy or hard this is would depend on the setup of the wiring. You should get in a licenced electrician to do this job.

However an alternative is to also make your entry way light motion activated. Because the motion activated works locally for that light fitting, not for the whole wire.
