How do you make a stop motion video?

I want to make a stop motion video with some of my Legos but I have no idea how. How do you make the video look like the movements and actions are moving smoothly? What materials do I need to creat this stop motion video? what do you suggest I do when making the video? State any tips or suggetions please. Oh! One, shooting is alot easier, but at the same time, it's hard to get the walking to look realistic.



You'll want a digital camera with a high megapixel count. A tripod would be VERY useful.



Some nifty supplies to have would be tape and temporary bondage material. Tape to hold your sets down so they don't move, and bondage to hold your characters in positions that they wouldn't be able to hold on their own.



You'll need an animation software. I recommend Jasc Animation Shop, but if you have a Macintosh go for iStop Motion.



FPS - For a beginner, five frames per second. Eventually work up to where you can get smooth animation at 15 FPS.



The movements and actions are hard to get right. Before shooting your masterpiece, try some screen tests to perfect your technique.

You can use a digital camera to take stills. Position the characters with the scene, then when it's set up take a picture (still), then move the character very slightly forward and take another picture. Keep doing this! Take a picture for every time you move the character until it reaches a point you want it to. Then take all the pictures and upload them to your computer and seeing you are new to this; use Windows Movie Maker and import all the images to it and trim them and speed them up so the pictures move really fast! Then save it as a video file. It gives the illusion of movement and if you want it to go even faster... import that video you have created and speed it up again! It works really well when the frames are shown at quick rates.
