Why are you supposed to wipe off CDs in an outwardly motion? Why can't you wipe in a circular pattern?

Why are you supposed to wipe off compact discs in an outwardly motion? Why can't you wipe in a circular pattern? Why are you supposed to wipe off CDs in an outwardly motion? Why can't you wipe in a circular pattern? If by chance there is a particle that can scratch the surface, wiping outward will scratch only once

Going in circles, the particle will keep on scratching the disc

Minor scratches dont make the disc unusable

But if you add enough of them it may become unreadableWhy are you supposed to wipe off CDs in an outwardly motion? Why can't you wipe in a circular pattern? If you scratch the disc, which is very difficult, and don't notice you won't damage as much as the disc going out than going in a circle. Going out you'll hit the edge, going in a circle you'll never stop.
