I have to be in a car for 9 hours tomorrow and I don't feel like just listening to music. I can't read or play video games or anything because I get motion sick and feel like I'm going to puke. The only way I can get over my motionsickness is to look at the road. You could get books on your i-pod or on tape to listen to while on the long drive. Playing road games is fun too. If you read or use a games system, these will also shake and cause disorientation.
The best thing to do is to close your eyes so that you don't experience the disorientation. Use an airline eye mask if you have one. Reduce your sleep the night before and don't take caffeine loaded drinks like coffee, tea or cola so that you can sleep most of the way is another idea.
It's really best not to take unnecessary medication. Your body always pays a price for unnecessary drug use, prescription or otherwise.

1. face my left palm up with my arm relaxed and bent
2. grab my forearm with my left hand
3. press my thumb over my veins and tendons about halfway between my hand and elbow
(you can massage it a little too)

Take Dramamine for motion sickness. Look out of the window and dream. I have the same problem.
