entry lights. How do I wire a motion detector into that circuit?I want to wire a motion detector for my driveway lights?YOU WOULD SPLICE INTO THE LINE BETWEEN THE SWITCH IN THE HOUSE AND THE LIGHTS. YOU WOULD HAVE TO DECIDE WHERE YOU WANTED TO PLACE THE MOTION DECTER AND RUN THE WIRES TO IT AND BACK TO THE LIGHTS. THE MOTION DECTER IS JUST ANOTHER SWITCH THAT WORKS FROM MOTION. IT WOULD BE A PIECE OF CAKE TO DO .I want to wire a motion detector for my driveway lights? All you have to do is buy a light Fixture that has a motion Detector built into it- I have one in the back of my Garage just like that.

I want to wire a motion detector for my driveway lights?Buy one and read the instructions.I want to wire a motion detector for my driveway lights? If the area covered by the lights is small, the motion detector should be wired in at the first light coming from the switch with the wires feeding the light (from the switch) being tied to the motion detector. The load wires from the detector are then jointed with the wires to that light and the wires going to the next lights down the line. This will control all lights with the one detector.
The possible problems may be:
If the first light in on the porch (which is likely) then the motion detector will only activate if someone approaches the porch and comes in line with the area controlled by the sensor. This will not provide security in areas away from the porch.
If you want to insure security in every area (if it is a large area) you will need to install motion sensors at more than one light or at each light. The wiring is slightly different for that. In that case, you would add the motion sensor on the line of each one and only attach the wires to each light to the load side of the sensor. (The line side is for the feed wires and the load side is for the fixture wires.)
