Can I update my video camera to put stop motion videos on it?

I want to make stop motion videos, only i have a video camera and my mom won't let me buy a new one...can i update my camera so that i can take stop motion videos on it?Can I update my video camera to put stop motion videos on it?I don't see why you need to buy a new camera or update the one you already have to shoot stop motion. If you have either the USB or firewire cables to connect your video camera to your computer then your video camera will most likely be recognized by a stop motion program and you can use it to shoot stop motion movies.

To actually frame-grab and compile the movie, I'd suggest using Monkeyjam if you're on a PC. It's free.

AnimatorDV: Simple+ became freeware.

If you're on a Mac, you could try Framethief or FramebyFrame.

So once you've downloaded and installed one of these programs, plug your video camera into your computer and turn it on (make sure you've installed all the drivers for your video camera). Then turn on the program and go to the camera settings: it should detect and list your video camera as an option. Click on it, and you should now be able to use the program to capture frames from your video camera in order to make a stop motion movie.

If you need any more help or info, just let me know.
